Ак Барс и Йокерит вряд ли остались довольными последним сезоном. В нем Казань намеревалась вернуть себе чемпионское звание, а коллектив из Хельсинки ставил цель выйти в финал конференции. В итоге Ак Барс отступился на будущем победителе, Авангарде, финская дружина в плей-офф вовсе не добилась ни одной победы.
В межсезонье «барсы» пошли на серьезные перемены в составе. В первую очередь отметим, что продлил контракт тренер Квартальнов, из-за которого большая часть игроков с закончившимися соглашениями решили продлиться.
