Действующий чемпион Европы провел неоднозначный групповой этап, в котором тоже пропускал от каждого соперника. В принципе, Италии необязательно было играть вничью с Хорватией (1:1) в последнем туре, поскольку ей хватало очков для выхода с третьей строчки.

Возможно, коллектив Спаллетти был бы не прочь другой половины сетки. С другой стороны, Италии необходимо еще пройти Швейцарию, против которой не сыграет Калафьори, выдавший ассист на Цакканьи.
