Нижегородское Торпедо вернулось в Западную конференцию перед стартом текущей кампании – здесь Динамо из Риги находится на позициях аутсайдера уже давным-давно. Латышам не удается конкурировать с противниками из группы претендентов на плей-офф – как раз там блуждают «автозаводцы». После двух поражений на старте декабря Торпедо победило в трех матчах подряд – обыграны ЦСКА и минское с рижским Динамо.
