На заключительном отрезке сезона в конце мая Юнион Сент-Жиллуа обогнал Брюгге в гонке за золото и впервые в своей истории стал чемпионом Бельгии. Скорее всего, коллектив Поконьоли не остановится на достигнутом – даже после нескольких трансферов «на выход» его подопечные котируются фаворитами.

В отличие от Брюгге, команда Поконьоли справилась с давлением и провела мощную концовку. В заключительном туре чемпионата Юнион одолел Гент (3:1), оторвавшись от главного конкурента на расстояние в три балла – в раунде плей-офф на его счету наибольшее количество голов (22).

За неделю до старта кампании у коллектива Хейена случились серьезные изменения в обойме – в АПЛ за суммарные 40 миллионов отправились де Куйпер и Тальби. Также Брюгге расстался с Ютглой – испанец вернулся в Ла Лигу, где будет выступать за Сельту.

В спаррингах дружина Хейена выступила чуть лучше ближайшего соперника. Здесь Брюгге испробовал резерв в поединке с Кортрейком (2:0), потом не выявил сильнейшего в матче с мощным Рейнджерс (2:2).
